PARS knowledge exchange event
Movement for Health in partnership with Public Health Scotland welcomed 110 delegates to Glasgow Caledonian University to share learning of how the Physical Activity Referral Standards can enhance practice and support more people living with long term health conditions to move more in a way that suits them and their conditions. Through presentations and workshops, delegates heard a variety of PARS implementations through delivery models at local level. Themes of the day included the value PARS brings to any practitioner and by using PARS local level is seeing a gradual move away from a pharmaceutical approach to healthcare to a preventative and early care focus.

The Cycle Ride Leader award is a one day training course designed to provide an introduction to leading groups on risk assessed and organised bike rides during daylight hours. It enables leaders to plan and organise rides within an organisation, community group or club.

Walk at Work and Workplace Walk Leader Training
This is an interactive and practical one day course which will help you get colleagues walking more in and around the working day. This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to develop and deliver a successful workplace walking initiative. We’ll provide you with ideas on how you can promote workplace walking from active travel to lunchtime walks, pedometer challenges to walking meetings and more.

Walk your way to strength and balance programme
A half day workshop explains why daily walking plus strength and balance activity provide the key to active older age. Walk Leaders will learn how to do simple Strength and Balance exercises that can be introduced to walkers and on health walks. Each delegate will receive a set of cue cards and 5 leaflets. This course can be delivered for groups of up to 15 Walk Leaders online.

Thrive Learning Programme
This programme helps practitioners understand more about how to use physical activity or sport to achieve a range of outcomes. Includes: A short course - a free online course of self-directed study for those based in Scotland suited to those who may have a part time or volunteer role in using physical activity or sport to make a difference. A certificated training course - 3 days of training over 3 months with work-based learning. This full course is particularly suited to those working full time in this field, including both managers and practitioners. It is currently free to those based in Scotland.

A half day workshop that explains why walking, plus Strength and Balance provide the key to active older age. Participants will spend time learning how to encourage mobility and activity and build Strength and Balance into daily care. This course is delivered by qualified trainers who have extensive experience in health and social care.

Walking for Health Training Inclusion Training – including people with a disability in Health Walks and outdoor activities
Half day practical training course for Walk Leaders and staff/volunteers involved in leading outdoor activities. This training aims to increase confidence in supporting the inclusion of disabled people in outdoor activities such as Health Walks or other low level activities. The focus of this course is on ability rather than disability, and the aim is to help you to influence and deliver good practice, to communicate effectively and to find out where to go for further information. The course is delivered by experienced trainers from Scottish Disability Sport.

This course is for Health Walk Leaders and Coordinators who would like more knowledge and skills in leading welcoming and more inclusive Health Walks for people of all abilities. This course aims to increase participants confidence in supporting the inclusion of people with disabilities, impairments and long-term conditions in Health Walks. It also aims to help participants to influence and deliver good practice, to communicate effectively, and to find out where to go for further information or support. The course is delivered by expert trainers from Scottish Disability Sport.

Brief 45 min modules helping staff, older people and families understand the value of moving more. This resource focuses on older people remaining as independent as possible by promoting more everyday movement. Practical and useful for people who live with or work with frailer older people.

Active Travel – Planning & Design
This course is intended for local authority staff, transport planning consultants and contractors working in the design of highway infrastructure. This course provides delegates with the information and skills to develop designs for walking and cycling infrastructure within the UK regulatory framework. The course takes place over four days and is awarded 24 CPD hours.

Physical Activity and Health
E-learning module - CPD Accredited. This e-learning course prepares GPs, nurses and other healthcare professionals to champion the benefits of physical activity with their patients and, in doing so, help prevent and/or manage a range of common physical and mental health conditions. The course will familiarise the learner with the UK Chief Medical Officers’ physical activity guidelines, the underpinning evidence base and how to incorporate it into their daily clinical care.
